{November 5, 2009}   Claiming Your Ground Part Two – Muladhara

Something I forgot to mention in the first blog this is not a magic pill. Everyone is looking for a magic pill to heal their body and emotions, but there is no magic pill. If you want to heal you have to make some serious lifestyle changes. That could be anything from changing your diet to getting some exercise. Plus, you have to want it, you have to desire the change, take hold of that change and embrace that change. You deserve happiness!!!  But, you got to allow yourself to have it. So, you have to do these practices consistently. I promise you it works, I know from my own experience, which I’m not going to bore you with that drama. So, let’s move on to the Muladhara.

Energy Currents

There are energy currents that run through to all parts of your body. The primary currents run from chakra to chakra.  These currents connect your chakras to your body, that’s why people who have a deficient/excessive Muladhara may have issues with hemorrhoids, stiffness in legs, poor circulation in legs, obesity, etc. etc. etc.. Plus, an unhealthy Muladhara may lead the other chakras being unhealthy.

Note: There are many different ideas of chakras having no relation to the body to the chakras having direct relationships to particular organs in the body. I believe, as do many others, that it’s not necessary the organ that the chakra may live in that causes dis-ease. It’s the energy of the emotions that cause stress and the body’s reaction creates dis-ease in the body and those organs.

An example would be a person who was physically or sexually abused as a child and their coping strategy is to be out of your body when the abuse occurs.  The coping strategy says to them, we got to be somewhere else. Even after the years of abuse may end the chakra may still be programmed to react that way. You see, it’s a trickle down affect.  The programming remains with the chakra, then the mind, to the body. Those emotions take it’s toll on the body. Unhealthy emotions, for example, depression and anxiety kicks in, like worry, fear and anxiety.  Eventually you’ll feel like you are dying inside and hopefully nothing worse then will occur. Don’t let the worst happen, we all deserve to be here!  We all deserve happiness! Accept it!

In Nia, it is taught that adding emotion to your practice is way to cope, release and work those body parts, activate muscles, etc. where those emotions lie in. This is why Nia can be such an emotional release. This is why some people cry in their Nia classes and they even come up to their teachers and ask, “Is it ok for me to cry?” Some people may laugh and laugh, some people may even feel uncomfortable in their body because they just have no idea what is going on and they won’t come back. They should come back!

Specific Nia Movements were designed to work those muscles and release those emotions. So, since we are talking about the Muladhara and when you are in closed stance and open stance and there is an emotion that you want to release. Use those motions discussed in “Claiming Your Ground – Muladhara Part 1” to release those emotions. Take that emotion, let it drain from your body, instigate those emotions being pushed out with your pelvis, etc. etc. Then prepare yourself to replenish your body with new emotions, which we will discuss next.

Replenishing and Reprogramming with Healthy Emotions

Once you have released unhealthy emotions, now it’s time to replenish/reprogram your body with new emotions. Those of you who have taken a Nia class will understand the next bit of info.

  • When you extend your arms to the heavens, invite joy and happiness into your heart.
  • When you extend your arms to the community then embrace yourself, embrace joy and happiness.
  • When you extend your hands to heavens, use your body to spiral happiness and joy throughout your body. Shifting your upper then lower body, spiral head to toe pushing that energy throughout your body saying to yourself, I accept and deserve joy and happiness.
  • When ever your work with space, your space around you, and the three different levels extend joy and happiness energy to your aura.
  • Finally standing in closed stance (mountain pose), ground happiness and joy to your body. Invite it, embrace it and accept it. You deserve it!

Once you practice Nia practice and do it consistently, new motions will open up to you, that would be your instincts kicking in.  You should add it to your Nia practice.

Okay, that’s it for now. Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll have the next chakra, Svadhisthana the sacral chakra, typed up and share it with you. Peace!
